Mitchell Transport chose two Detroit Diesel 60 Series powered Freightliner trucks. Both represented the high and low ends of diesel performance MPG in the fleet. Also best and least skilled driver abilities were taken into account. The DDEC system data from Detroit Diesel was downloaded on both trucks and the MPG was used as the base line. The Power Cells were installed and run for 6 months. Once again the DDEC system was downloaded and numbers for diesel performance MPG were compared to the base lines.

MPG improved 3.1% (best driver) and 1.3% (least experienced driver). That's normal for Detroit Diesel. The fuel spends a few extra seconds in the DD fuel rail and loses a fraction of its charge. Based on 120,000 annual miles and diesel fuel priced at only $1.50/gallon, we projected annual fuel savings of 480 and 250 gallons and dollar savings of $720 and $325 per year - about $1050 for the two trucks. At $3.85 per gallon: $1,800 and $960 per truck per year.
